Intro Cutscene

[Turkish Airspace, October 16, 2004 - 19:49 Hours]

(Sam is sitting firm waiting for Grim to connect his subdermal)

Grim: This is going to sting.

Sam: Go ahead.

(Grim plants the earpiece)

Grim: Hold that.

(Sam holds the wires as Wilkes watches from afar.)

Vernon Wilkes Junior: Christ, this is spooky.

Sam: What's that?

Wilkes Jr: Grim's sticking wires in your head, man.

Grim: I just need to sync the encryption signature between his subdermal and Fort Meade.

(Grim goes to check the connection as Wilkes has a cigarette in his hand.)

Sam: Don't light that.

Wilkes Jr: I know. It's for after we land. You better hurry up, Grim. We touchdown at Georgia in fifteen.

Grim: I'm already done. *to subdermal* Lambert? Hey, Irving, do you read me?

Lambert: (Radio) Tell her I read her.

Sam: He reads you.

Lambert: Good. Ready to get to work?

Sam: I'd feel better if I knew what was going on.

Lambert: You know what's you need to. The CIA lost a mole inside Georgian President Kombayn Nikoladze's cabinet. Her name is Alice Madison. They send agent William Robert Blaustein to find her and lost him, too.

Sam: Are we working with the CIA's cooperation?

Lambert: Blaustein is outfitted with subdermals just like yours. That'll be your best lead to find him.

Sam: You didn't answer my question.

Lambert: We'll tell you what you need to know. You're not out there alone, Fisher. Through me, you're attached to a dozen of the best NSA minds we have. There are political complexities with Georgia you'd need a week to understand.

Sam: I've just about memorized this speech, Lambert.

Lambert: Well start believing it. This is Third Echelon's maiden voyage and we need it to go smooth as butter. You're about to touchdown in Georgia. Get ready.

(Sam stands up and walks towards Wilkes, who hands him his silenced pistol. Sam takes it and heads off.)

[Andrews Airforce Base - Maryland - USA]

[October 15, 2004, 18:27 Hours] (Sam walks off a military jeep and joins the Osprey as he notices Jr. Wilkes standing out about to smoke a cigarette. He grabs it off his mouth.)

Sam Fisher: Don't light that.

Wilkes: Christ.

(He heads inside to meet up with Anaa Grimsdottir.)

Anna Grimsdottir: You must be Sam Fisher. I'm Anna Grimsdottir, pleased to meet you.

Fisher: Third Echelon lead programmer.

Grim: You've done your homework.

(Sam starts to settle down with his equipment, as all passengers board and the Osprey takes off.)

[Turkish Airspace]

[October 16, 2004 - 19:49 Hours]

(Sam is talking to Lambert on his earpiece)

Irving Lambert: Good. Ready to get to work?

Sam: I'd feel better if I knew what was going on.

Lambert: As you know, the CIA lost contact with two agents. William Blaustein and Alice Madison. Madison was a mole inside Georgian President Kombayn Nikoladze's cabinet. Nikoladze was a wealthy industrialist, before he transitioned to politics. Once he took over in Georgia, he opened up the country to the west, fostering an economic environment that promoted technology development.

Get ready.

(Wilkes hands Sam his silenced pistol. Sam takes it and walks out of frame.)

In-game

(Scene Starts in a back garden at Old Town T'Bilisi, Georgian. Sam is about to move.)

Irving Lambert (radio): Fisher. The sun's down. Time to go to work. Finding agent Blaustein's our first priority. You're to locate him through a local NSA contact.

Sam Fisher: I'm on my way.

Lambert: And stay off the streets. There's a heavy cop presence in this town and we don't have Washington's backing if this turns into an incident. Details on your OpSat.

(If player falls onto street level at any point before the street-level restriction is rescinded)

Lambert: Dammit, Sam! This mission is too sensitive to have you running around on the streets. I’m pulling the plug, the mission’s over. [Mission failed]

If player kills civilians at any point

(First civilian killed)

Lambert: Dang! You know you just gunned down a civilian, right? One more mistake like that, and this mission's finished.

(Second civilian killed OR Gurgenidze is killed / knocked out before talking to him)

Lambert: Dammit, Fisher! We can't keep covering up these civilian corpses. Maybe you weren't the agent we were looking for. You and this mission are finished. [Mission failed - You killed too many civilians]

If the player sets off any alarms

(First alarm)

Lambert: This operation is based around stealth, watch the alarms.

(Third alarm)

Lambert: That's our limit, one more alarm and I'm aborting the mission.

(Fourth alarm)

Lambert: That's one alarm too many, the mission's over. [Mission failed - You sounded too many alarms]

Warehouse fire

(As Sam gets over the roof overviewing a blazing warehouse across the street with only a zipline across and 3 people running out of the burning building and into a van which then speeds away)

Fisher: Don't tell me. Gurgenidze's inside there.

Lambert: Why would I tell you what you already know? You're gonna have to hurry. Grimsdottir's comparing a Darkstar drone sonar to the warehouse blueprints. She'll be guiding you through.

(Once Fisher enters the ransacked, burning warehouse via zipline)

Anna Grimsdottir: Sam, Grimsdottir here. I say jump, don't ask how high, just do it; you should get through this fine. There's a room directly across the hall. Go there now.

(Sam Attempts to go into the room, but the room is destroyed by the blaze)

Grim: Damn! Sorry about that. Get back into the hall and got to the stairwell at the far end. Make it fast, you've only got a few seconds.

(After Sam traverses the hallways and across a gapped spot using a pipe climb)

Grim: Jesus, but that was close. Take a left just ahead and cut through the room. You'll find a stairwell on the opposite corner. Take it to the top floor.

(As Sam climbs the stairs and enters the room where Gurgenidze's lain on the floor crushed halfway down from broken beams hearing a distant moan)

Grim: The contact is in this room. Let's hope to God he's still alive.

(Sam approaches him and speaks)

Sam: Gurgenidze?

Gurgenidze: Yeah.

Sam: I'm NSA, we're gonna get you out of here.

Gurgenidze: Don't bother, I'm as good as dead. You're looking for Blaustein and Madison?

Sam: Yeah.

Gurgenidze: Madison was deep into Nikoladze's cabinet. She was onto something big. Blaustein must have figured it out.

Sam: How do I find him?

Gurgenidze: Blaustein's Black box. The tracking relay for his subdermals. It's stashed in his safehouse just east of Morevii Square.

Sam (to Lambert): Lambert, do we have resources to evac this guy?

Gurgenidze: I said don't bother. Whatever Madison found, it's big. She kept saying proof would mean war. I think Nikoladze wanted...

(Gurgenizde passes out and dies amongst the wreckage)

Sam: Gurgenidze checked out.

Lambert: Leave the corpse for the fire. It'll be less to explain to his family.

Anna: You've got a safe exit on the west side of the room. Take it.

(Sam reaches a room that is chocking with smoke)

Anna: There's too much smoke. Shoot out the skylights.

(Sam shoots out the skylights and exits the building)

Blaustein's Safehouse

Lambert: That was pretty tight. You still breathing?

Sam: Doing my best.

Lambert: Good. Blaustein's black box is your next objective. If he's running standard Agency tradecraft, you'll find the box behind a fake bookshelf or wall panel.

(As Sam crosses the building via balconies, he reaches Blaustein's safehouse behind a pathway covered by fence, and to the patio. Sam can hear a Russian mercenary talking on his radio)

Merc1: Put Grinko on. ...Because those are my orders. I speak to Vyacheslav Grinko or nobody. Ass... Grinko, eh.. Sir. This is Kilkevan. We finished searching the American's apartment. There is nothing else there. We found more books, cameras and some electronics we can't I.D. They're already on their way to the Ministry... Of course. Thank you, Sir.

(Another Merc comes out the door to the patio)

Merc1: Did you check under the beds?

Merc2: Yes. I am telling you, there's nothing else here.

Merc1: Grinko says to do a final sweep, and then wrap it up.

Merc2: We've checked everywhere. The place is clean.

Merc1: Don't cross Grinko.

(Sam slips in through the window and finds the black box in Blaustein's bedroom where a painting obscures it then patches through)

Lambert: Dang!

Sam: What's the news?

Lambert: Blaustein's heart stopped beating forty-three hours ago.

Fisher: Any reason the CIA wouldn't know about this?

Lambert: Nope.

Fisher: Nice of them to share.

Lambert: The subdermal went offline six hours after he died. Last active position was at a police station a few blocks away. Check your OpSat.

(As Sam moves to lower ground via an elevator shaft to the streets)

Lambert: Fisher, I'm rescinding my street level restriction. We've been monitoring the T'Bilisi police radio. These cops are as crooked as a Virginia fence. They're not gonna want any more international attention than we do. Every road is open to you. Do what you've gotta do to find those missing spooks.

Street Level

(While passing down the street-ways, Sam notices two T'Bilisi police patrol-men harass a drunken civilian on a bench.)

Policeman1: What do you think you are doing? Prison cells don't come cheap these days.

Policeman2: The real-estate is closer to your rent than the morgue.

Policeman1: Slabs are going for cheap.

Policeman2: Yeah, I think we can serve you up with a slab real easy.

Drunk: I've done nothing, please.

Policeman2: Nothing!? How about drunk and disorderly, assaulting a police officer, slandering the badge...

Policeman1: You said we're associated with criminals.

Drunk: Ah, then arrest me. I must sleep.

Policeman1: Weren't you listening?

Policeman2: The rent's gone up in jail.

Policeman1: You want to die tonight, that's free. You want to sleep tonight, it will cost you one hundred Lari.

Drunk: Oh, please... I don't... I don't... *Passes out*

Policeman2: Aaah, now what are we going to do with him?

Policeman1: Check his pockets. I'll radio HQ.

Policeman2: Sure.

Policeman1 (over radio): Unit three to dispatch. We have a 10-53, possible assault. Can you send an ambulance?

Intercept: Copy that, unit three, but we're dealing with a warehouse fire so expect delay.

Policeman1: Roger that, dispatch. We'll wait with the victim, unit three out.

Policeman2: Assault?

Policeman1: Something we can pin on Kosta. Policeman2: Hehehehe. Good thinking.

(If Sam gets spotted by one of the civilians overlooking from their windows in their houses, he intercepts a radio chatter while additional police men come to his last seen position)

Intercept: We've got a civilian report of a heavily armed man, doesn't sound like one of our associates. Cherkezi, I want you and your men to check it out.

(Sam finds Gurgenidze's dead drop and opens up the gate. He then walks all the way to the police station.)

Police Precinct

(After jumping the back gate, Sam enters through the basement door.)

(If the prisoner in the jail cell hears Sam:)

Drunk Prisoner: Who in the hell are you supposed to be? Huh, is there anybody else seeing a bionic commando. I think I've got (inaudible).

(Sam heads to the autopsy room, where a technician is standing. If Sam catches the technician in the autopsy room, he can interrogate him. What is said in the interrogation depends on whether or not Sam has found the bodies of the two agents yet.)

Sam: One false move and you're dead. I need information.

Technician: Ehm, Ok.

Sam: I'm looking for two Americans. Probably dead.

Technician: I... Grinko will kill me. *grunts*

Sam: Where are they?

Technician: Nearby. The Morgue. They're dead. I helped the mortician to find the microchips under their scalps.

Sam: The subdermals.

Technician: Yeah. Please don't hurt me!

Sam: Stay calm. You're gonna answer some questions.

Technician: Okay.

Sam: Who were those corpses?

Technician: I don't know.

Sam: Lies make me grumpy.

Technician: *grunts painfully*

Sam: The corpses.

Technician: Americans. American agents.

Sam: What's your involvement?

Technician: I… I assisted the mortician. I helped him locate the chips.

Sam: The subdermals?

Technician: Yes.

Sam: Where are they?

Technician: I don’t know. Ow! I swear, I don’t have them! *painful grunt* ...Grinko. I gave them to a man named Grinko. But I swear, I don’t know where he took them.

Sam: When did he leave?

Technician: Four hours ago. That's all I know, I swear!

Sam: Cross your heart and hope to die?

Technician: What!?

Sam: Forget it.

(If Sam interrogates further:)

Sam: Tell me about Grinko.

Technician: He'll kill you!

Sam: Is that right?

Technician: If he's feeling generous!

(If Sam keeps interrogating.)

Technician: Please. Don't hurt me! (OR) That's all I know! Gah! I swear, that's all I know!

(Sam heads into the morgue. Two bodies are on display, male and female, with a gunshot wound to their chests and a triangular cut on their heads)

Sam: I've got Agents Blaustein and Madison.

Lambert: Rest in peace. Somebody cut out their subdermals.

Sam: Where do we go from here?

Lambert: We follow the subdermals if we can.

Sam: Hmm. There's a security camera here.

Lambert: Good thinking. We'll track the subdermals from the video archives. The station's surveillance room is on the top floor.

Police Precinct - Upstairs

(Sam goes upstairs to the main lobby and finds a civilian enter and go up to the reception booth.)

Civilian: I'd like to talk to your superior.

Desk Clerk: Perhaps I can help you, Sir.

Civilian: By fetching your superior.

Desk Clerk: I'm all there is. How can I help?

Civilian: I'd like to register a complaint.

Desk Clerk: Then you'll have to ask at the desk to your right.

Civilian: Very well.

(The Civilian goes to the right and so does the desk clerk)

Desk Clerk: May I help you?

Civilian: You're the same cop.

Desk Clerk: Yes, but this is the public relations desk.

Civilian: Fine. I would like to register a complaint.

Desk Clerk: Of course, Sir. If you could just have a seat until someone is ready to help you.

Civilian: You've got to be kidding me!

Desk Clerk: I could easily have you arrested, Sir.

(The civilian sits down on the bench, as Sam heads a floor above to the archives, sneaks past two cops at their desks, subdues another cop watching the video archives, and interacts with the computer)

Lambert: Great work, Fisher. We're scanning the videotapes now.

Grim: There, that's our guy. We got him red-handed.

Lambert: Can you run his face through Echelon?

Grim: Already on it. Hey, check it out, a license plate. 84 KP 214.

Lambert: Fantastic. Fisher we got what we need. Rendezvous with Wilkes, your work here is done. We'll get back to you once we've sifted this Intel.

(Sam exits the building through the front door and heads to an incoming van with Wilkes behind the wheel)

[Mission complete]
